Steve, The CCNA Security Countdown Is On!

Steve,

Welcome to the Monday, July 7 edition of The Mastermind!

The response to the new CCNA certifications continues to pour in, and in response to the #1 question we're getting, yes, the CCNA Security Study Package will be available in September!

I've already taken over 150 screen shots of SDM for this exclusive product, and you can bet every bit of my experience with SDM will be part of the CCNA Security Package - all the theory and real-world knowledge you need to pass the exam AND become a true professional in the world of network security!

In the meantime, you need to work on your CCNA - you've got to earn the CCNA before you can take on the new CCNA Security, Wireless, and Voice certifications!

To help you get there, I've got four CCNA question set links for you today, a special offer for CCNP candidates, and CCNA Security questions are a daily part of the newsletter now as well!

There's also a new CCNA Security tutorial for you on the main site, and I've got a link to that article in today's newsletter as well.

And you thought the summer would be boring! ;)

Let's get started!

Cisco Has Announced Three Additional CCNA Certifications -

But To Earn Them, You've Got To Be CCNA Certified, So Get Started Today!

Cisco has announced three brand-new CCNA-level Certifications:

CCNA Security

CCNA Voice

CCNA Wireless

Click those links to go to the new resource pages I've created for each new exam - I'll post practice questions, written tutorials, and video training on those pages in the weeks and months ahead.  There is a new CCNA Security tutorial on using SDM to configure one-step lockdown - the link is on the CCNA Security page.   There's also information and a link to my CCNA Security Study Package page!

These new certifications are going to be a tremendous career boost to those who earn them.

Why? Just look at these statistics!

Security: Right now, 46% of companies included in the survey have a position dedicated to security -
that's going to almost double over the next five years to 80%.

Voice: Currently, 40% of surveyed customers have a voice specialist.
That number will rise to 69% in the next five years.

Wireless: While 33% of surveyed companies currently have a position dedicated to wireless, that value will double over the next five years to 66%.

(Stats were arrived at by Forrester Consulting during a study sponsored by Cisco. You can get a copy
here.)

Those statistics tell a simple tale:

Network admins who have knowledge and certification in security, wireless, and voice will have a huge advantage over network admins who do not.

That's why Cisco is introducing these new certifications, and exactly why I'll be releasing Study Packages for all three of these specializations, beginning in September!

There's one detail you need to take care of now, though.

To earn any of these CCNA specialist certifications, you must earn your CCNA first, by either the one-exam (640-802) path or the two exam path (ICND 1 and 2).

This announcement by Cisco makes it more important than ever to be CCNA certified. Be ready to earn these new certifications by earning your CCNA now!

Just imagine how impressive your resume and reputation will be when you're CCNA certified and certified in security, voice, and wireless!

Personally, I'd hire you in a minute, and I've always been tough about who I hire.  And if you already worked for me, you'd get the next promotion.

Get ready for these new certifications by starting on your CCNA now.  Take five minutes to read this page - it's more important than ever.

The Ultimate CCNA Study Package

Starting this September, I'll be releasing Study Packages for CCNA Security, CCNA Voice, and CCNA Wireless. While I'm working on those, you need to be working on your CCNA to take advantage of these vital new certifications.

Here are the answers to yesterday's questions!

Cisco CCENT :

Name the OSI model layer associated with each of the following terms:

A. routing

B. IP addressing

C. physical address

D. TCP

E. UDP

Answers: Routing occurs at the Network layer (L3), as does IP Addressing. Physical addresses are found at the Data Link layer (L2), not the Physical layer (L1). Both TCP and UDP run at the Transport layer (L4).

Cisco CCNA Certification:

By default, what criteria are used for matching in an extended ACL?

A. The source IP address.

B. The source and destination IP address.

C. The destination IP address.

D. Neither the source nor destination IP address.

Answer: B. Extended ACLs require you to configure a value for both the source and destination IP addresses, even if you're not matching against one of them. (In that case, you'd specify "any".)

CCNP Certification / BSCI Exam:

Short answer: The default OSPF cost for a serial interface connected to a T1 line is ____________.

Answer: 64.

CCNP Certification / ISCW Exam AND CCNA Security question:

Short answer: What globally configured command would create a username / password combination of gordon / ramsey and grant that user privilege level 10?

Answer: username gordon privilege 10 password ramsey. The privilege level goes in the middle of the command.

A. Priority Queueing (PQ)

B. Weighted Fair Queueing (WFQ)

C. Low Latency Queueing (LLQ)

D. Custom Queueing (CQ)

Answer: D, the aptly-named Custom Queueing, allows the admin to define up to 64 classes.

That's it for today!  Keep working on your CCNA so you're ready for the new exams, and I'll see you Tuesday!
